Research and Development Division
Vision
To support the mandated vision of the Department of Fisheries in undertaking sustainable fisheries management to reach food fish security, improve fisheries livelihoods and to increase earning from fisheries exports.
Mission
Undertake fisheries research and development activities as per following:
i. | Evaluate marine fisheries produces and the status of the resources |
ii. | Evaluate inland freshwater fisheries produces and the status of the resources |
iii. | Develop aquaculture through introduce better culture methods, feed formulation and species selection |
iv. | Introduce and investigate seed production methods for aquaculture species as well as for those of natural fish species to utilize in stock enhancement program in natural water bodies |
v. | Discover and protect breeding grounds and nursery grounds of commercially important species |
vi. | Undertake Monitoring Controlling and Surveillance for the extend of responsible fisheries activities and status of resources for the sustainable use |
vii. | Discovered and undertake protective measures for endangered and vulnerable aquatic animals and fish species |
viii. | viii. Disseminate post-harvest technologies: handling, holding, process and preserve of the catches to increase benefits of the fishers and relevant stakeholders |
ix. | Disseminate and introduce value added methods for low value/trash fish to effective uses of the resources and increase income of the fishers |
x. | Disseminate, educate and training on fisheries development and fisheries management related subject |
xi. | Close communicate with fisheries bodies and organization within ASEAN region and with international and initiate cooperation in fisheries development and research |
xii. | Extends information technologies (computer skills and internet access) and set fisheries reference source (library) |
