Location
The Fisheries Institute (Twantay) is situated on Twantay - Maubin Highway, Twantay District, between Zee Phyu Gone Village and Mya Goe Village, located on the side of Zee Phyu Gone Creek and it (26.956 km) away from Yangon.Fisheries Institute has 92.846 acres and it is within the land area (1232.46 acres) of Twantay Fishery Station Compound.
Background History
At the meeting of the (3/2021) of the State Administration Council, coordination meeting, the Chairman of the State Administration Councilgiven the instruction for the extending of University , Colleges , Vocational training , Institute of science that would enable country focus on agriculture, Livestock held on (22-2-2021). In accordance with the 3 economic orientations of the State Administration Council, the Department of Fisheries has been opening the Fisheries Institute (Twantay) that's to make a chance for employment opportunities as a profession .
Fisheries Institute (Twantay) buildings were completely finished on (5-9-2022) by the administration and management of Department of Fisheries , Development and Research Division of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, with the intention of becoming one of Myanmar's fisheries-related a university by the order of the Union Minister.
On the date of (12-12-2022), The Union Minister of Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation attended the opening ceremony and opened of Fisheries Institute (Twantay).
The objective of the Fisheries Institute (Twantay) is as follow,
- To produce skillful mid-level aquaculture professionals for the improvement of aquaculture production in Myanmar.
- To provide an opportunity for students who are interested in aquaculture to study as a major subject, and it to be able to obtain employment opportunities that match their vocational education.
- To increase the availability of human resources that can support and participate in the programs for the development of new livelihood opportunities for farmers and the development of rural areas and for the development of Myanmar's fisheries sector.
- To understand the Aquatic environment and relevant subjects of Biology , Physics, Chemistry and ecology of aquatic plants and animals, water resources and their production, the basic science of chemical composition of aquatic organisms and their use.
- Not only fresh water site but also to learn about the marine sector such as Marine environment to support Marine fisheries, Biology, Physics, Chemistry of Marine organisms and Marine water resource conservation.
Expected results/benefits
We will be able to produce human resources capacity with mid-level aquaculture experts there are needed to be performed in Myanmar's fisheries sector.
Duties responsibilities in Fisheries Institute (Twantay)
In the Fisheries Institute (Twantay) there are one of Deputy Director Level for Principle,( 1 ), Lecture(2), Assistant Lecture(3), Fishery officers(3),office staffs (5) and (10) persons of general workers for each duties , with total (25) staffs are working in current status.
