The objective of the Research and Fisheries Resources Conservation Section

  1. To support the mandated vision of the Department of Fisheries in undertaking sustainable fisheries management to reach food fish security. Carrying out research activities related to fish industry for long-term sustainable development of fish processing.

The Research and Conservation Unit's Research and Sustainable Fisheries Conservation Activities.

2.       The Research and Conservation Unit’s fisheries Research and Conservation Conducted are as follow:

A.       Evaluate inland freshwater fisheries produces and the status of the resources .And then Stock assessment of fresh water species.

B.       Evaluate Myanmar water and coastal region of marine fisheries produces and the status of the resources. And then stock assessment of Marine species.

C.       Classification of freshwater and marine water fish and aquatic animals according to the zoological nomenclature system and Preservation of specimens by the Museum.

D.       Discover and protect breeding or spawning grounds and nursery grounds of commercially important species.

3.       Fishries resource observation by the Dr.Fridtjof Nansen research vessel from September to November 1979.(1) Researched once; 1980 From March to April (1) 2013 (1)time ;   from November (13) to December (19) 2015 (1)once ; from April (25) to June (18) 2018 (1); from August (24) to September (29) *1);A total of (5) research operations have been completed in Myanmar Sea.

For the 2024-2025 in-shore waters to be researched, the Department has submitted to the Ministry to cooperate with the Tanintharyi Fisheries Federation (TRFF) to study the existence of fish resources and the spawning season in the water depth of 20 meters along the coast of Tanintharyi.
