Mon State Department of Fisheries Informs Fishermen on Marine Mammal Sightings and Accidental bycatch information

The Mon State Department of Fisheries has conducted an awareness campaign with relevant stakeholders in February, 2025. The campaign took place in various locations, including Satpalar Village in Chaungzone Township, Asin Village in Ye Township, and Sintpho Village in Mawlamyaing Township.

During the sessions, owners of inshore and offshore fishing vessels and fishermen were informed about the importance of reporting sightings of marine mammals and any accidental bycatch. The department emphasized that it is crucial to promptly notify the department if such events occur, ensuring timely communication and action.

Additionally, demonstrations have been carried out to burn and destroy discarded fishing nets that pose a threat to Fisheries resources, instead of dumping them into the sea.
